Job description

SAIT’s Athletic and Recreation department is a vital part of the SAIT experience, supporting Trojans athletes in various sports from hockey to golf. The department's programs and facilities promote active and healthy lifestyles for students, staff, alumni, and the public.

The Opportunity

The Athletics and Recreation department is seeking assistant coaches and team managers to contribute to the Trojans Athletics & Recreation programs.

Position Summary:

  • Focus on student engagement, experience, and program enhancement
  • Support student participation and competitive goals
  • Assess skills, prospect players, and promote teams
  • Coordinate tactical, technical, and strategic skills; foster team cohesion
  • Plan with a focus on podium results and social development
  • Manage and develop team rosters
  • Support or lead game days and events as needed
  • Work weekends and evenings during the season
  • Travel may be required as part of the coaching duties
  • Perform off-court/ice/pitch/race duties as part of the role
  • Positions range from 5 to 30 hours per week, billable via web time entry

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

Program Management Support
  • Assist the Head Coach with administrative, logistical, financial, and personnel needs
  • Support team activities with assistance from Trojans admin and sport coordinators
Coaching
  • Foster an environment aligned with SAIT FIRST principles, promoting holistic growth
  • Create a culture of excellence motivating athletes and staff
  • Conduct effective practices balancing athletic improvement and academic success
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Therapist to ensure injury prevention and health
Administration
  • Ensure compliance with athlete onboarding and league requirements
  • Follow SAIT policies, including purchasing, time entry, training, access, and branding
  • Manage team scheduling and communication
  • Complete required documentation promptly
EDI, SafeSport & SAIT Engagement
  • Support and promote SAIT and Trojans initiatives beyond athletics
  • Foster a #wearetrojans mentality

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma required
  • NCCP registration and pursuit of sport-specific training necessary
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma is an asset
  • Experience with NCCP Entry Level sport training preferred
  • Successful Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search required
