CEPAL Treasurer/ Director of Finances, Volunteer

General role of this Board Position:

Oversees the finances of CEPAL, providing the Board of Directors with monthly financial updates, a year-end financial report for approval, and an annual filing to the CRA.

Specific duties:

1. Develop and monitor an annual budget.
2. Maintain accurate accounts of all assets, liabilities, receipts, and disbursements.
3. Deposit all funds, securities, or valuables to the bank.
4. Disburse payments and make bank transfers according to procedures.
5. Ensure CEPAL and the Board follow the budget and financial procedures.
6. Collaborate with the Fundraising Director on fundraising strategies.

Relevant Skills or Assets:

• Experience in finance and accounting.
• Strong interpersonal and management skills.
• Experience working in NGOs or voluntary organizations.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Reside within commuting distance of Toronto.

Shared Responsibilities as a Board Member:

• Ensure public communications reflect CEPAL’s mandate and comply with policies.
• Develop and expand CEPAL’s membership and support base.
• Adhere to financial policies and meet organizational obligations.
• Contribute to setting organizational priorities and attend virtual meetings.
• Allocate sufficient time for tasks, typically 12-14 hours weekly during busy periods.
