Role Overview – Obstetrics Registered Nurse

As a Labour and Delivery RN, you will provide care to patients during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery in a hospital setting. You’ll work closely with obstetricians, neonatal teams, and other healthcare professionals to deliver safe and compassionate maternity care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor maternal and fetal well-being during labour and delivery
  • Administer medications and manage epidurals or other pain relief
  • Provide postpartum education and support
  • Support patients emotionally through each stage of childbirth
  • Respond to emergencies such as fetal distress or complications
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses

Qualifications

  • Current RN license in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Labour & Delivery or Obstetrics
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification – required
  • Fetal Health Surveillance in Labour (FHSL) – required
  • Completion of a Breastfeeding course or equivalent experience
  • Perinatal/Obstetrics nursing certificate – required
  • ACORN (Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns) – preferred
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – preferred
