Job summary
Passport Health in Alberta is seeking a Travel Health Nurse Practitioner to deliver evidence-based pre-travel medical care, including vaccinations and travel medicine prescriptions, within the Alberta College of Nurses and Midwives scope. The role is part-time (8 hours/week) and may involve coverage across multiple clinic locations in Alberta or remote work.
The NP will collaborate with Travel Health RNs and physicians to provide comprehensive care and ensure adherence to travel health
Qualifications
- Must hold a current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Alberta.
- Must hold provincial certification to prescribe in Alberta.
- Comfortable working with new technologies on a daily basis.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Available to work 8 hours/week (4 hour shifts).
Responsibilities
- Travel Health consultant delivering education and preventive care for international travelers.
- Prescriber collaborating with RN travel consultants to arrange malaria prophylaxis and other meds.
- Review client health history and travel plans via telehealth or video.
- Assess contraindications and potential drug interactions.
- Educate on medication frequency and duration for travel plans.
- Provide vaccinations and order/interpret relevant tests.
- Document care thoroughly in the client chart.
- Coordinate with physicians and pharmacists as needed.
- Adhere to travel health guidelines and participate in ongoing education.
