Job summary

Paladin Security is seeking a Travel Casual Patient Watch Security Officer to cover multiple hospital sites in Pictou County, including Aberdeen Hospital and Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital. You will drive your own vehicle, respond to emergencies, control access, and maintain a respectful security presence across shifts.

The role requires a valid driver's license, ability to obtain the Nova Scotia security license, and First Aid/CPR C certification.

Qualifications

• Valid Intermediate First Aid/CPR C certification.
• Valid driver’s license with own vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient watch duties with continuous observation to ensure safety and report concerns.
• Conduct hospital rounds and monitor access to restricted areas.
• Operate surveillance systems and alarm panels; report suspicious activity.
• Provide customer service to visitors, patients and staff; give directions as needed.
• Document incidents, breaches and security concerns in reports.
• Collaborate with hospital staff and local law enforcement for coordinated security.

Site Description

The requirement for this role is a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle, with the willingness to travel to various hospital sites within the Pictou County, i.e. Aberdeen Hospital and Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital

Key Responsibilities

• Perform patient watch duties as the main area of responsibilities, including continuous observation to ensure patient's safety and prevent harm. Monitor and report concerns, de-escalate situations calmly, follow clinical direction, document accurately, maintain confidentiality, and provide a respectful, non-invasive presence.
• Perform Healthcare Security Officer duties as needed, including:
• Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
• Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
• Access Control: Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
• Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
• Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
• Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
• Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
• Collaboration with Hospital Staff: Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
• Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards

Prerequisites

• Valid Driver's License and personal vehicle
• Ability to obtain Security License for the province of Nova Scotia
• Valid Intermediate First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor)
• English (oral and written) fluency is a must
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
• Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
• Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
