Job summary

Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society (KAFS) is seeking a Mental Health Support Worker to provide trauma-informed, culturally grounded mental health support to individuals and families in Kamloops. You will collaborate with clients, navigate services, advocate for needs, and connect them to community and cultural resources.

This contract role ends March 31, 2027, with potential extensions dependent on funding.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of experience in mental health or related setting.
• Trauma-informed, person-centred and strengths-based approaches.
• Cultural awareness of First Nations and Indigenous communities.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to work independently within a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one trauma-informed mental health support with advocacy and referrals.
• Meet clients to identify needs and follow up throughout engagement.
• Help clients access mental health, housing, income, and community services.
• Support clients in emotional distress and connect to crisis resources when needed.
• Work with Addictions and other programs for overlapping needs.
• Build relationships with community agencies and service partners.
• Assist clients in accessing cultural supports and Elders where appropriate.
• Respect Indigenous ways of knowing and client beliefs in delivery of support.
• Facilitate mental health education, outreach, and group activities.
• Maintain accurate, confidential client and program records.
