Job summary

Parkland School Division is seeking an Educational Assistant for a Temporary Full-time position at Westview School. The role focuses on supporting students with complex social-emotional needs, providing instructional and personal care support, and working within a multidisciplinary team to implement Individual Program Plans and adaptive strategies.

Experience with trauma-informed approaches and providing care in educational settings is required.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or comparable education.
• Experience working with students with complex social-emotional needs and a trauma-informed approach is necessary.
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary team is required.
• Provide personal care support including toileting, feeding and hygiene.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support in all curriculum areas, one-on-one or in small groups as directed by the teacher.
• Help organize notebooks, timetables, agendas and lockers; scribe notes from board and read exams as required.
• Assist in implementing Individual Program Plan (IPP) goals and adaptive devices.
• Provide support to communicate with peers and adults using American Sign Language or assistive technology devices.
• Apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students.
• Observe, chart and monitor student progress and behavior under teacher direction; support a safe classroom environment using de-escalation strategies.
• Provide personal care and hygiene support including feeding, dressing, grooming, toileting; operate and assist with mobility devices as needed.
• Administer medication as required; monitor feeding and breathing, assist with adaptive physical education and life skills development.
• Supervise students during activities, field trips and transitions; assist in boarding and disembarking from buses.
• Travel with students to job placements and community outings; support social skills development and integration into regular classrooms.
• Assist in building self-esteem and confidence; encourage participation in classroom activities.
