Job summary

Recruitment By Design is assisting an employee-owned engineering and planning firm in finding a Transportation/Highway Engineer for their Mississauga office. This permanent, full-time, hybrid role offers a CAD/design-focused environment where you plan, design, and oversee transportation projects with a collaborative team.

You will lead highway design efforts for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, mentor junior staff, coordinate with clients and sub-consultants, and ensure high-quality

Qualifications

• P.Eng. license in Ontario with at least 8 years of relevant design experience.
• Experience with MTO projects and related standards (OPSS, OPSD, TAC, HiCo, CPS).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to mentor staff.

Responsibilities

• Manage highway design projects from preliminary to construction administration for MTO.
• Lead local and regional teams in expressions of interest and proposals for highway design opportunities.
• Supervise designers and technical staff involved in highway design.
• Assist with training, mentoring, assessing and recruiting staff.
• Liaise with clients, sub-consultants, contractors and construction supervision staff.

Job description

Our client, an employee-owned engineering and planning company, is seeking a Transportation/Highway Engineer out of their Mississauga office. This is a permanent, full-time, hybrid flexible role, paying $90-120k, along with a competitive vacation and benefits package. This role allows you to use your technical expertise to plan, design, and oversee transportation network projects within a collaborative and dynamic design team. You will coordinate with clients, manage projects, and mentor junior staff while ensuring high-quality deliverables.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the preliminary and detailed designs and oversee the construction administration associated with highway design projects for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.
• Lead local and regional teams in the preparation and submission of expressions of interest and proposals to source new highway design projects.
• Supervise other designers and technical support staff engaged in the design of highways.
• Assisting with the training, mentoring, assessing and recruiting of staff; and
• Liaise with clients, sub-consultants, contractors and construction supervision staff.

Qualifications:

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licensed in Ontario with a minimum of 8 years of relevant design experience, with focus on MTO projects.
• Established reputation and professional relationships with MTO and Ontario municipalities.
• Experience in planning, preliminary design, detailed design, and construction administration of new or rehabilitated divided highways, arterial, and collector roads.
• Proficiency with Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and drawings (OPSD), TAC and MTO design standards, specifications, policies, Highway Costing System (HiCo), and Contract Preparation System (CPS).
• Experience meeting requirements for MTO RAQS registration as Key Personnel is an asset.
• Independent, organized, and motivated team player with excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and projects.
