Job summary

EXP Transportation Designer in Ontario: Markham, Brampton, London, or Hamilton, joining a dynamic team shaping transit and municipal infrastructure. You’ll design road reconstructions, stormwater systems, and related utilities, preparing detailed drawings under project supervision.

We seek a professional with 3–8 years in roadway design, strong MicroStation/OpenRoads skills, and knowledge of MTO/Metrolinx standards.

Qualifications

  • Ontario roadway design experience (3–8 years) in a consulting environment.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation Connect, OpenRoads, ProjectWise.
  • Strong CAD software skills: AutoCAD Civil 3D, Word, Excel, MS Project.
  • Knowledge of municipal & regional design and drafting standards, including MTO/Metrolinx.
  • Experience in preliminary and detailed design drawing preparation for transit, highway, and municipal infrastructure.

  • Prepare preliminary and detailed drawings for transit, highway, and municipal infrastructure projects including road reconstruction, watermains, storm and sanitary system replacements, MTO highways, construction staging, noise walls, and coordination with utilities.
  • Undertake project designs, specifications, and quantity calculations for cost estimates and tender documents under the direction of a Project Manager.
  • Coordinate project drawings with senior project engineers, project managers, design staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that project needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
  • Work under the direction of Senior Staff and mentor junior staff within the division.

Education

P.Eng./E.I.T./C.E.T. or Civil Technician with 3–8 years roadway design experience (Ontario)

About the Role

Transportation Designer at EXP, working in Markham, Brampton, London, or Hamilton, Ontario. The role is part of the Transportation team and involves designing transit, highway, and municipal infrastructure projects such as road reconstruction, stormwater systems, MTO highways, and more.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed drawings for transit, highway, and municipal infrastructure projects including road reconstruction, watermains, storm and sanitary system replacements, MTO highways, construction staging, noise walls, and coordination with utilities.
  • Undertake project designs, specifications, and quantity calculations for cost estimates and tender documents under the direction of a Project Manager.
  • Coordinate project drawings with senior project engineers, project managers, design staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that project needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
  • Work under the direction of Senior Staff and mentor junior staff within the division.
Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Engineer In Training (E.I.T.), Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Civil Technician with 3–8 years of roadway design experience, preferably from a consulting engineering office in Ontario.
  • Emphasis and proficiency with MicroStation Connect, OpenRoads and ProjectWise—mandatory requirement, along with strong computer software skills in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Word, Excel & MS Project. Experience with earlier versions of MicroStation and InRoads will be considered.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of municipal & regional design and drafting standards, including MTO and Metrolinx.
  • Experience in preliminary and detailed design drawing preparation for transit, highway, and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Independent, organized and motivated team player with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and deliver projects under stringent schedules.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $50,407 k – $66,819 k. Compensation packages are based on factors such as skill set, depth of experience, certifications and work location.
