Job summary

Canada Post in Montréal is seeking a Transportation Supervisor to lead a team of Mail Service Couriers, overseeing collection, transport and delivery of mail within an assigned area. You will ensure safety, compliance with procedures and adherence to service commitments.

Responsibilities include scheduling and routing, coaching staff on safe practices, monitoring performance, compiling reports, and coordinating with Fleet and Labour relations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience managing a team OR minimum 2 years’ experience working within a unionized environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., understand the major features of each software application)
  • Possess a valid permanent driver’s license and have a satisfactory safe driving record per CPC’s Driver Safety Program

  • Supervises a team of MSCs and ensures the safe and efficient motorized transport of mail within the community served.
  • Prioritizes, assigns and controls work, including authorizing overtime to cover routes and meet service commitments.
  • Assigns vehicles according to schedules and adapts to workload; forwards vehicle defect reports for action and verifies repairs are completed.
  • Promotes and implements workplace safety and health programs; coaches employees on safe practices and conducts safety inspections.
  • Oversees staffing and performance management, including attendance; coordinates with Labour Relations and union representatives.
  • Projects professional service standards and ensures customer experience is prioritized when investigating and resolving service issues.
  • Prepares reports on operational data to monitor performance and control expenditures.

Job Description

Reporting to the Superintendent Transportation, supervises the activities of a team of Mail Service Couriers (MSC’s) engaged in collecting, transporting and delivering mail within an assigned geographic area. Ensures that corporate procedures, safety practices, security regulations are followed, and service commitments met.

Job Responsibilities
  • Supervises a team of MSC’s and ensures the safe and efficient motorized transport of mail within the community served. Prioritizes, assigns and controls work, including authorizing overtime to cover the various pick up and delivery routes and meet service commitments.
  • Assigns vehicles according to established schedules, adapting schedules to meet workload requirement and vehicle condition. Forwards vehicle defect reports submitted by drivers to Fleet management for action and validates that repairs are completed prior to releasing the vehicle back to the driver.
  • Promotes and implements work place safety and health programs for assigned team. Coaches and directs employees on safe work practices in order to reduce accident frequency and severity; conducts accident investigations and reports incidents. Addresses and resolves health and safety issues in a timely and efficient manner. Conducts safety inspections and takes corrective action to rectify unsafe operating conditions.
  • Supervises, coaches and provides guidance and leadership to employees. Oversees staffing and performance management, including attendance management. Resolves staff issues, including disciplinary action if required. Consults with Labour Relations and/or union representatives on the application of the terms of the collective agreement. Creates learning and knowledge transfer opportunities for employees.

  • Projects professional service standards and ensures customer experience is a priority when investigating and resolving service issues and customer complaints.
  • Prepares reports on operational data in order to control expenditures, work performed and to monitor overall performance.
  • Conducts on-route assessments and frequent spot-checks of MSC performance to maintain productivity, quality, safety and security standards.
  • Liaises with other supervisors to ensure effective coordination of operations or to solve operational problems.
  • Performs other duties such as compiling statistics, maintaining records and submitting reports; replacing the Superintendent during his absences; and participating in budgetary forecasts.
Qualifications
Education
  • High School diploma or provincial equivalent (GED) (Equivalent Experience may be accepted in lieu of a High School Diploma)
Experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience managing a team OR Minimum 2 years’ experience working within a unionized environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., understand the major features of each software application)
Other Candidate Requirements
  • Possess a valid permanent driver’s license (no graduated or temporary license)
  • Have a satisfactory safe driving record per CPC’s Driver Safety Program , which includes:
  • Have not received more than 2 moving violations in last 3 year
  • Have not had more than three demerit points assigned in one single violation
  • Have not had license suspension or prohibition of any kind in last 3 years
Assets
