Job description

Overview

At Houston Methodist, the Transplant Recovery Nurse position leads organ procurement services required for transplantation and manages the peri-operative phase of recipient transplantation. This position serves as a mentor and resource for team members. The Transplant Recovery Nurse reviews cadaveric donor organ offers, assesses clinical diagnostics, and evaluates case details with transplant physicians to determine suitability. Responsibilities include disseminating pertinent transplant case information, providing clinical guidance to other departments, and coordinating organ recovery and transplant events. The nurse will assist physicians in caring for patients using specialized clinical knowledge and skills, and support patients and families during the wait for transplant. Leading the organ recovery process according to transplant center protocol, the nurse ensures the supply, equipment, and transportation needs of the transplant team are met to facilitate optimal recovery. The role involves implementing organ and tissue-specific preservation as requested and coordinating communication among all involved teams and families to ensure proper management of the recovery and transplant events.
