Raise is currently hiring a Transmission Lines - Senior Geotechnical Engineer on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer in this role will join the Transmission Lines Geotech team. This role requires a strong background in geotechnical design, specifically for overhead structures and underground cables and facilities, within an electric utility environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading complex geotechnical analyses, preparing detailed designs, and providing technical guidance for a variety of transmission line projects across the organizations extensive network.

Responsibilities

  • This role requires demonstrated experience with geotechnical design for Overhead - structures and underground cables and facilities for operating voltages from 60kV to 500kV in an electric utility environment, as well as design for telecommunication towers.
  • Prepare project documentation and deliverables in accordance with project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans).
  • Prepare design work packages including scope, duration, and level of effort estimates.
  • Prepare signed and sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional Geoscientist and as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with EGBC and Design Practices.
  • Provide technical assistance and construction support in the field, and undertake field reviews as required by EGBC.
  • Prepare designs for existing and new facilities.
  • Undertake site investigations of surface and subsurfaces to establish geotechnical ground conditions and soil classification.
  • Perform various in situ field tests such as standard penetration test, cone penetration, dynamic cone penetrometer.
  • Perform tasks in the field for laboratory soil testing.
  • Undertake analysis for design of concrete, steel, timber, aluminum, and composite structures associated with Transmission Overhead - Lines including single and multiple pole structures (rigid and guyed), and lattice (rigid and guyed) for shallow (i.e. grillage) and deep (i.e. piles) foundations.
  • Undertake analysis for foundations design of structures associated with Transmission Underground Cables including potheads, concrete vaults, and cable duct banks.
  • Prepare reports for internal and external clients detailing investigations, evaluation, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Provide technical guidance and review of designs prepared by others following established practices.
  • Manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost.

Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in a relevant geotechnical engineering field within an electric utility or related heavy civil infrastructure environment.
  • Experience with geotechnical design for Overhead - structures and underground cables and facilities for operating voltages from 60kV to 500kV in an electric utility environment, as well as design for telecommunication towers.
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical principles, soil mechanics, and foundation engineering.
  • Experience with preparing project documentation and deliverables in accordance with project and Engineering Design Practices (i.e. evaluation reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis', calculations, hazard logs, test plans).
  • Proven ability to lead and manage complex geotechnical design projects from conception to completion.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and ability to travel to various project sites across British Columbia as required.
  • Education and skills
    • Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
    • P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Additional Information

  • Candidates in this role must be able to travel to remote site for short durations to conduct site inspections.
  • Flexible work model may require mandatory work from office for at least 1 day per week.
  • Every contractor must supply their own Windows 10 or 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
  • Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
