GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING, TRANSMISSION - STATIONS
The Transmission Engineering Division offers a rewarding opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join its Geotechnical Team as a Contingent Labour Resource Augmentation. The division provides engineering services for 18,000 km of transmission lines, 150+ substations, and numerous telecom towers. Projects include capital and maintenance work on stations, lines, and telecom assets. The focus of this role will be on foundation design, ground improvement, geohazard and geotechnical risk identification and mitigation. The assessment and design of station assets across the province will be primary, with work also involving line and telecom assets. Experience with rock anchor foundation design and rock slope stabilization would be advantageous, although rock engineering and rock mechanic assessments are not mandatory.
The current geotechnical team comprises 1 specialist engineer (stations), 2 senior engineers, 1 technologist, and 2 external geotechnical engineers. The environment is multidisciplinary, requiring collaboration with Electrical, Overhead, Structural, Civil, environmental, safety, and construction management teams. Some work is conducted by external consultants, especially subsurface site investigations.

This role requires proven experience in geotechnical design for heavily loaded building foundations and substation components, suitable for voltages from 60kV to 500kV, including telecommunication towers.

The candidate should also be capable of reviewing seismic ground response analyses, foundation stability post-earthquake, and construction monitoring of ground improvement works.
This is an initial one-year contract, with high likelihood of extension based on workload and performance. Attendance at BC Hydro workplaces may be required, subject to vaccination policies.
