Job summary

Timmins and Area Women in Crisis (TAWC) is a dynamic, community-based feminist organization, which provides services on intimate partner abuse and sexual violence to women and their children in the Timmins area. TAWC works within an integrated feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression framework. The agency administers a sexual assault centre, an emergency shelter as well as second stage housing to abused women and their children.

We are looking for a dynamic woman to join our team in the capacity of Part Time Transitional Housing Support Worker.

The ideal candidates will demonstrate the following:

Qualifications:
  • Post‑secondary degree/diploma in a relevant field
  • Solid understanding of feminist ideology and anti‑racism/anti‑oppression principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues relating to violence against women and its effects
  • Strong coordination and organization skills
  • Sound judgment, problem solving, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, advocacy & mediation skills
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including communication, networking, and group/meeting facilitation
  • Must undergo a criminal record check
  • Must be able to do lifting/carrying
  • Must possess a valid Class G driver’s licence and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage
Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide crisis intervention, support and information for women who are survivors of violence.
  • Accompany and advocate for clients as needed.
  • Link women to appropriate community referrals.
  • Coordinate and facilitate community groups and meetings.
  • Assist clients in locating safe/affordable housing, filling out applications and applying to social housing.
  • Develop relationships with local landlords and housing providers.
  • Increase client awareness of tenants’ rights and responsibilities.
  • Provide women with budgeting and basic life skills as needed.
  • Complete various administrative tasks including collecting and reporting statistics.
  • Attend and participate in fundraising and awareness raising ventures.
TAWC has a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy that requires individuals to take part in COVID-19 vaccination programs recommended by Public Health, unless they are approved for a medical or human rights accommodation from TAWC. Compliance with this policy is mandatory for this position.

Hours of work: 21 hours per week
