Job summary

CN in Canada seeks a Train Conductor to join a 2-3 person crew, coordinating the movement of trains, rail cars, and locomotives in yards and on-route, including track switches and ground work outside the locomotive cab.

The role requires clear communication, adherence to safety rules, and readiness for outdoor conditions. Training is provided, with a unionized environment and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Write and pass safety and rules exams (as per collective agreement, Locomotive Engineer qualification to retain seniority)
• Obtain and maintain Conductors Rule Card
• Possess and maintain a valid driver's licence
• Possess and maintain a passport allowing entry to Canada and the U.S.
• Proficiency in both oral and written communications

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with train orders, signals, rules and safety regulations
• Provide and receive instructions concerning movement and placement of rail cars
• Assemble and dismantle trains in the rail yard and on-route
• Observe/relate signals to ensure safe movement of trains and locomotives
• Operate track switches to route locomotives and cars
• Inspect train and equipment condition
• Make decisions in unfamiliar locations or emergencies
• Communicate with Rail Traffic Control and other crews regularly
