Job summary

City of Burnaby is seeking a skilled Trades 2 – Electrician to install, repair, and program traffic signal equipment and to maintain street lighting and facility systems. The role includes testing software on traffic systems, maintaining pumps and electrical controls, and coordinating with City staff on installation methods.

The position may involve supervising staff, standby duties, and fiber optic installation for networks, with a requirement for BC trade certificate, Grade 12, and a Class 5

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 plus Electrician trade certificate and journeyperson experience.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and traffic operations regulations.
  • Ability to install, operate, monitor, repair and maintain computerized traffic signal systems and other electrical equipment.
  • A Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required.
  • Ability to supervise staff and work in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and program traffic signal equipment and maintain traffic signal systems.
  • Perform maintenance on electrical controls, alarms, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Test and update software for traffic systems and PLC/VFD applications.
  • Liaise with City staff on installation methods and requirements.
  • Possibly supervise technical staff and handle standby/call-out duties.
  • Install fiber optic cables in existing networks.
