Job summary

A leading engineering firm is seeking a Traffic Engineering Intern to support a dynamic team in Richmond Hill. As part of this role, you will engage in traffic operations analysis, transit studies, and data analytics, fostering skills while contributing to meaningful projects. This temporary position provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in traffic engineering and transportation planning.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant software packages is preferred.
  • 2 years toward degree with 3.0+ GPA is a plus.

The Traffic Engineering Intern will work with a dynamic team of traffic engineering / transportation planning professionals on a variety of projects including municipal traffic signal coordination, transit operation studies, traffic modelling, traffic impact studies, road safety analysis, and highway planning studies.

Job responsibilities

Job responsibilities will vary depending on the strengths of the potential candidate and opportunities available but will generally include:

  • Traffic Operations Analysis
  • Field Surveys / Observations
  • Traffic Impact / Development Studies
  • Signal Optimization / Traffic Signal Coordination
  • Data Processing and Analytics
  • Graphic / Mapping
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry
  • Technical writing skills
  • Knowledge of traffic / transportation analysis tools would be an asset: such as Synchro, Vissim, Aimsun, EMME, Legion, and ArcGIS.
  • Knowledge in data analytic tools would be an asset: Python, SQL, Microsoft Azure, AWS
  • Driver's license would be an asset, but not a requirement
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
