Job summary

WSP in Atlantic Canada seeks a Traffic Engineer-in-Training to help shape safer, more efficient transportation networks. You will work with experienced professionals on municipal, provincial, and private sector projects, building your technical expertise while delivering transportation and traffic solutions.

The role emphasizes data collection, analysis, and communication of findings, with opportunities for field work, collaboration, and growth within a global firm.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering with an interest in transportation.
• Registered, or eligible to register, as an Engineer-in-Training with the provincial association.
• Up to four years of experience in transportation engineering, municipal infrastructure, land development, or related field.
• Understanding of transportation planning, traffic engineering principles, road safety, and multimodal transportation systems.
• Experience with Synchro, SimTraffic, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, AutoTURN, GIS is an asset.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to participate in field work.

Responsibilities

• Support transportation and traffic engineering studies through data collection, analysis, technical documentation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Analyze traffic operations using industry-standard software such as Synchro and SimTraffic to help evaluate transportation performance.
• Prepare traffic forecasts, trip generation analyses, and transportation impact assessments that influence future infrastructure decisions.
• Develop technical reports, memoranda, graphics, and presentation materials that clearly communicate project findings and recommendations.
• Contribute to site plan reviews, access evaluations, parking assessments, and vehicle circulation analyses that support smart development.
• Participate in field investigations, traffic counts, parking studies, and site inspections to collect meaningful transportation data.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and technical specialists to deliver high-quality transportation solutions.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline with an interest in transportation or traffic engineering.
• Registered, or eligible to register, as an Engineer-in-Training with the applicable provincial engineering association.
• Up to four years of experience in transportation engineering, municipal infrastructure, land development, or a related field.
• Understanding of transportation planning, traffic engineering principles, road safety, and multimodal transportation systems.
• Experience with tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, AutoTURN, GIS, or comparable software is considered an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and present technical transportation data with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prepare concise technical documentation.
• Valid driver's licence and willingness to participate in field work and site investigations when required.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $66,700 - $88,400

MB & ON: $60,900 - $83,800

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $60,300 - $80,000
