Job Description

We are currently seeking a qualified Traffic Coordinator / Field Specialist – EGS, with a focus on traffic management coordination and City of Toronto permitting, to join our Infrastructure Team based in Toronto, ON. The Traffic Coordinator / Field Specialist will be part of the Delivery Partner integrated project team responsible for performing construction field engineering assignments of a varied nature within the Ontario Line Subway Project. The Traffic Coordinator / Field Specialist will have two key responsibilities: primary traffic coordination and secondary field specialist/engineer duties. The Field Specialist will act as the primary liaison between EGS, other Ontario Line projects, and the City of Toronto, ensuring coordination and expediting of traffic management plan approvals and road closure permits. They will take the lead on EGS traffic management initiatives, including organizing collaborative workshops and engaging with all pertinent stakeholders to develop effective traffic solutions. In addition to traffic coordination, the Field Specialist will also hold traditional field specialist responsibilities, which include executing and managing construction field engineering tasks, ensuring work meets safety, technical, and quality standards. This role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to coordinate with project teams. The Field Specialist may lead a team or specialize in a specific area of the project and will have the opportunity to work on the Ontario Line (OL) Subway, Metrolinx project. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review project requirements and ensure tools, equipment, and materials are ready for field deployment.
  • Analyze technical drawings, scope, and specifications to ensure full project understanding.
  • Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and team members to align on goals and timelines.
  • Assist in planning methods and procedures and resolve technical issues with superintendents.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures.
  • Provide hands-on technical support, troubleshooting on-site issues, and ensuring equipment compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and technicians to ensure work meets specifications.
  • Supervise junior engineers or contractors, providing guidance and support.
  • Communicate with project managers and clients on progress and issue resolution.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure compliance with technical standards and safety protocols.
  • Complete field reports documenting tasks, issues, and corrective actions.
  • Monitor material usage, labor hours, and equipment operation for accountability.
  • Address client concerns on-site and escalate when necessary.
  • Prepare reports summarizing activities and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with project teams to align on goals and timelines, providing input on technical challenges and solutions.

Qualifications

  • Traffic management and control experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field as well as a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or 7-9 years relevant experience in the absence of a degree
  • Work experience as a field engineer, or assistant superintendent.
  • Previously held construction supervision role(s) with responsibility for construction of infrastructure of similar scope, size and complexity to a station on a rail / transit project.
  • Given the importance of professional communication with the City of Toronto, strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role.
  • Experience with liaising with the City of Toronto or other governmental or regulatory authority.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
