Company Overview:

Nexus Energy Inc. is a privately held energy trading company based in Toronto, Ontario, with operations across Eastern Canada, the Northeastern U.S., and Western markets. We also have a growing presence in the retail and Renewable Energy Credit (REC) space, reflecting our commitment to a diversified North American energy portfolio.

At Nexus, we foster a culture that values individual performance, team collaboration, and continuous growth. You’ll be part of a passionate team that drives the business forward through innovation and open communication.

We’re currently seeking a Trading Analyst to help enhance the tools our team relies on daily, assist in developing trading strategies, and gain hands-on experience as a Real-Time trader. This role offers a strong pathway into a high-impact trading position in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and maintain tools used by the trading team on a daily basis (e.g., dashboards, pricing models, data visualizations)
  • Assist in researching, investigating, and developing trading strategies using historical data and real-time market trends
  • Gain proficiency as a Real-Time trader through hands-on exposure to market operations
  • Support the trading desk by occasionally backfilling Real-Time shifts as needed
  • Potential to transition into a full-time Real-Time trading role
  • Collaborate with traders and analysts to identify process improvements and automation opportunities
  • Monitor market data feeds and support trade execution processes
  • Help produce performance reports and post-trade analysis
  • Use Python, Excel, or other analytical tools to build and optimize workflows (if applicable)
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to work under time-sensitive conditions

What You Will Bring:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, finance, economics, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proficient programming skills, with an emphasis on VBA and Python. Familiarity with Java, XML, SQL, and MySQL is an asset.
  • Experience building analytic tools (gathering, cleaning, and manipulating datasets, ultimately deriving meaningful results).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure.
  • Comfortable and capable of eventually working on a rotating 12-hour day & night shift schedule.
  • Demonstrated interest in energy markets, trading, or commodities.
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, programming, or a related field.
  • Prior experience developing new tools in collaboration with others.
  • Familiarity with energy trading systems or platforms (e.g., ETRMs, ISO portals).

What We Offer:

  • A pay-for-performance environment that offers competitive salaries and incentives.
  • Numerous opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Work-life balance
  • Comprehensive employer-paid benefits coverage.
  • Registered pension program professionally managed by a major Canadian financial institution.
  • Annual sporting & lifestyle allowance
  • Team-building events and access to additional benefits and perks for your overall health and wellness.
