Job summary

Laurentian Bank Securities, a subsidiary of Laurentian Bank of Canada, is seeking a skilled professional to negotiate repo and reverse repo transactions to optimize funding and liquidity. You will work closely with Fixed Income Trading, Treasury, Risk Management, and Operations to manage positions, collateral, and funding needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, Finance, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Master's degree completed or in progress: an asset.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the brokerage industry.
  • CFA designation: an asset.
  • CSI courses required: CIRE and ISE.
  • Strong knowledge of applied mathematics and complex problem-solving.
  • Ability to analyze data and develop quantitative models.
  • Excellent programming skills.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and execute repo and reverse repo transactions to optimize funding, liquidity, and balance sheet utilization.
  • Maintain strong relationships with counterparties and internal teams to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Monitor liquidity, funding, leverage, and risk limits in line with policies and regulations.
  • Monitor inventories, collateral, and counterparty exposures to protect capital and optimize desk profitability.
  • Ensure rigorous transaction monitoring and resolve discrepancies and issues.
  • Participate in strategic liquidity management and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Keep up-to-date with financial markets, funding practices, and regulatory changes.

This position is within Laurentian Bank Securities, a subsidiary of Laurentian Bank of Canada.

The incumbent is responsible for negotiating and managing repurchase agreement transactions (Repos and Reverse Repos) to ensure the efficient financing of fixed-income securities inventories and the optimization of the organization's liquidity. In this role, the individual works closely with the Fixed Income Trading, Treasury, Risk Management, and Operations teams to ensure effective management of positions, collateral, and funding requirements. The incumbent also contributes to identifying opportunities to enhance the profitability of financing and securities lending activities.

Responsibilities
  • Negotiate and execute repo and reverse repo transactions to optimize funding, liquidity, and balance sheet utilization.
  • Maintain strong relationships with counterparties as well as with Middle Office, Back Office, Treasury, and Risk Management teams to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Continuously monitor liquidity, funding, leverage, and risk limits while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor inventories, collateral, and counterparty exposures to protect capital and optimize desk profitability.
  • Ensure rigorous transaction monitoring and contribute to the timely resolution of discrepancies and operational issues.
  • Actively participate in strategic projects, committees, and continuous improvement initiatives related to liquidity management, balance sheet optimization, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial markets, funding practices, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, Finance, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Master's degree completed or in progress: an asset.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the brokerage industry.
  • CFA designation: an asset.
  • The following Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) courses are required:
    • Canadian Investment Regulatory Exam (CIRE)
    • Institutional Securities Exam (ISE)
  • Strong knowledge of applied mathematics and complex problem-solving.
  • Ability to analyze data and develop quantitative models.
  • Excellent programming skills.
  • Proficiency in both French and English.*

*Professional working proficiency in French and English languages required as position involves frequent written and oral communication on complex matters with internal and external parties in both languages.
