Job summary

Herc Rentals is seeking a safety-focused Class 1 (AZ) Driver to transport and deliver heavy equipment and to support yard operations across Northern Ontario regions. The role includes pre-trip inspections, load securement, and occasional long-haul assignments, with overtime based on demand.

In addition to driving, you will assist with branch activities, equipment staging, and customer service, representing Herc Rentals at customer locations and maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 1 (AZ) Driver's License with a clean driving record.
• Air Brake (Z) endorsement.
• Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience operating manual transmissions.
• Experience hauling construction, aerial, heavy or other equipment.
• Knowledge of load securement including chaining and strapping.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport, deliver and retrieve equipment across assigned territories.
• Act as backup semi-driver when needed to cover vacations or peak periods.
• Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections; maintain logs and records.
• Secure equipment using proper chaining, strapping and blocking per regulations.
• Navigate challenging delivery environments including busy sites and long routes.
• Assist with unloading/loading, yard staging, and equipment preparation for rental readiness.
• Represent Herc Rentals professionally and build strong customer relationships.
• Report equipment concerns or delivery issues to branch management.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a safety-focused, customer-oriented Class 1 (AZ) Driver to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their day and is willing to contribute beyond driving. In addition to transporting and delivering equipment, the successful candidate will support yard operations, equipment staging, and branch activities while serving as a key backup for a variety of transportation needs.

This position primarily serves Northern and Northwestern Ontario and requires flexibility to support local deliveries, regional routes, and occasional long-haul assignments.

Schedule

• Monday to Friday, typically 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM
• Overtime available and expected based on business and customer requirements
• Occasional early starts (prior to 7:00 AM) may be required to support customer needs, including film production and other time-sensitive projects

What you will do...

Safely transport, deliver and retrieve construction, aerial and heavy equipment across assigned territories.

• Act as a backup semi-driver when required to support operational coverage during vacations, absences or peak periods.
• Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain all required documentation, logs and records.
• Secure equipment using proper chaining, strapping and blocking techniques in accordance with transportation regulations and company standards.
• Navigate challenging delivery environments including busy job sites, tight access areas, adverse weather and long-distance routes.

Operate a variety of vehicles including:

• Roll-back/5-ton trucks
• 1-ton trucks
• Tractor-trailers/semi-trucks

Branch & Yard Support

• Assist with unloading and loading equipment from third-party carriers and customer deliveries.
• Support equipment staging and organization within the yard.
• Wash, inspect and prepare equipment for customer delivery.
• Apply green tags and ensure equipment is properly prepared for rental readiness.
• Capture and upload equipment photos using company systems and technology.
• Assist with triage activities and basic branch operational support as required.
• Operate equipment such as scissor lifts when required and appropriately trained.
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe yard environment, including general housekeeping duties.

Customer Service

• Represent Herc Rentals professionally at all customer locations.
• Build positive customer relationships through dependable service and strong communication.
• Report equipment concerns, damage or delivery issues promptly to branch management.

Requirements

• Valid Class 1 (AZ) Driver's License with a clean driving record.
• Air Brake (Z) endorsement.
• Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience operating manual transmission vehicles.
• Experience hauling construction, aerial, agricultural, tanker or other heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of proper load securement practices including chaining and strapping equipment.
• Ability to safely load, unload and handle equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable using electronic logs and mobile technology.
• Strong commitment to safe work practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating 53' flatbed trailers hauling aerial equipment such as boom lifts and scissor lifts.
• Experience operating roll-back trucks and semi-trucks.
• Experience working within construction, equipment rental, transportation or industrial environments.
• Forklift and/or aerial equipment operating experience.

Type: Headcount Increase

Pay Range:$29-$34 per hour
