Purpose of the position:

No railroad experience is required! In this position, you will maintain the track and surrounding areas using moderate physical labour and technology (automated machinery). We use technology as much as possible to reduce physical stress. Duties include replacing and repairing track components such as rails, ties, fences, and adjusting track alignment and surface, as well as responding to emergencies and outages.

• 5 days on & 2 days off schedule
• Moderate to heavy physical labour on assigned track areas
• Pulling track spikes
• Applying rail anchors
• Shoveling crushed rock
• Bending & lifting up to 50 lbs regularly
• Work is outdoors in all weather conditions
• Work may be seasonal with layoffs at season's end
• Employees will be called back as needed (and in seniority order) for the next season

Position requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years old
• High School diploma or GED
• A valid driver’s license
• A valid Class 3 license or higher (considered an asset)
• A safety-oriented work ethic supported by labour industry experience
• Good written and verbal communication skills

Medical requirements:

Operating safely is fundamental at CPKC. All new hires for safety-sensitive roles must complete a pre-employment medical including physical, vision, hearing, alcohol, and drug assessments. Pre-employment drug tests are also required. Candidates participating in the Trainee Program will need to pass a drug test during training before final qualification.
