Track Labourer

Purpose of the position:

No railroad experience is required! In this position, you will maintain the track and surrounding areas using moderate physical labor and technology (automated machinery). We use technology as much as possible to eliminate physical stress on the body. Duties include replacing and repairing track components such as rails, railway ties, fences, and adjusting the alignment and surface of the track, as well as responding to emergencies and track outages.

  • 5 on 2 off schedule
  • Moderate to heavy physical labor on an assigned area of track
  • Pulling track spikes
  • Applying rail anchor
  • Shoveling crushed rock
  • Bending & lifting up to 50 lbs regularly
  • The work location is outdoors, so you will work in all weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, etc.)
  • Work can be seasonal, and employees may be laid off at the end of the season
  • Employees will be called back as needed (and in seniority order) for the next work season

Position requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High School diploma or GED
  • A valid driver’s license
  • A valid Class 3 license, CL4, CL3/Air, CL2, or CL1/Air is an asset
  • A safety-oriented work ethic supported by experience in the labor industry
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are essential
