EY’s multidisciplinary Business Tax Incentives (BTI) team, part of our Business Tax Services practice, specializes in credits and grants related to discretionary incentives, sustainability, capital investments, and scientific research and experimental development (SRED). We are a dynamic group of tax, audit, and science and technology professionals working with companies of all sizes across various industries to maximize their tax benefits and achieve their business objectives. We are seeking an experienced Manager with a software development or IT background to deliver advisory services to our clients in Ontario.

Opportunity:

As a Business Tax Incentives IT Manager, you will lead a team while working with a diverse range of clients, from entrepreneurs to public corporations, to evaluate and prepare their SRED claims. Your thorough understanding of web technologies and software architectures will enable you to lead and develop a team of engineers and data scientists, providing value to clients. You will meet with CTOs, Chief Architects, and Software Developers to assess client eligibility for funding, establish claim amounts, and write technical project descriptions detailing innovation and development activities. This includes discussing prototypes, innovative software architectures, algorithms, and frameworks. This role is ideal for someone with a Computer Science degree and relevant work experience who wishes to expand their career into the business and financial aspects of technology.

Core elements of the role include:

1. Meeting with clients and utilizing your knowledge of current technologies to identify SRED claim opportunities in fields such as software development, cybersecurity, wireless networks, data analytics, defense, robotics, and AI.
2. Mentoring and managing Tax Staff and Senior Tax Staff.
3. Preparing and reviewing detailed project descriptions for clients’ R&D activities.
4. Leading and assisting in reviews with the Canada Revenue Agency.
5. Managing client expectations, workflow, and ensuring deadlines are met.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• An MBA is an asset.
• Advanced knowledge of web technologies, cloud computing, programming languages, and telecommunications.
• Practical experience with the SRED program is strongly preferred.
• Ability to think creatively and develop on-the-spot solutions.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
