Job summary

Simpson Strong-Tie Canada, Limited in Pitt Meadows, BC is seeking a Tool & Die Maker to maintain, repair, and improve progressive dies, supporting safe, reliable production and high-quality output.

You will mentor apprentices, share tooling knowledge, and contribute to continuous improvement with the Production and Maintenance teams. This full-time role offers competitive wages and relocation may be considered.

Qualifications

• Tool & Die Maker certification or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience maintaining and repairing progressive dies in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of tool room equipment including mills, lathes, grinders and drill presses.
• Ability to read blueprints, tooling drawings and work instructions.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience mentoring apprentices or less experienced team members is an asset.
• CAD/CAM and welding experience are assets.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and improve progressive dies to support safe, reliable production and high Quality output.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspection, sharpening, rebuilding and restoration of production tooling.
• Manufacture and modify die components using mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses and other tool room equipment.
• Support die try outs and troubleshoot tooling issues on the production floor. Work closely with Production, Setup and Maintenance teams to minimize downtime and improve performance.
• Verify dimensions, clearances and alignment using precision measuring equipment. Ensure finished products meet quality requirements and specifications.
• Support the development of apprentices, and other team members by sharing knowledge and promoting strong tool room practices.
• Maintain a clean, organized and Safe tool room environment and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned.

YOU

As a Tool & Die Maker, you will play a key role in maintaining, repairing, improving, and troubleshooting progressive dies that support production across the plant. You will help improve tooling reliability, reduce downtime, and increase Manufacturing capacity by working closely with Production and Maintenance teams. Beyond maintaining tooling, you will help develop tool room capability by sharing knowledge, supporting apprentices, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen our Operations for the future.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (% of Time)

• (20%) Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and improve progressive dies to support safe, reliable production and high Quality output.
• (20%) Perform preventive maintenance, inspection, sharpening, rebuilding and restoration of production tooling.
• (20%) Manufacture and modify die components using mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses and other tool room equipment.
• (15%) Support die try outs and troubleshoot tooling issues on the production floor. Work closely with Production, Setup and Maintenance teams to minimize downtime and improve performance.
• (10%) Verify dimensions, clearances and alignment using precision measuring equipment. Ensure finished products meet quality requirements and specifications.
• (5%) Support the development of apprentices, and other team members by sharing knowledge and promoting strong tool room practices.
• (5%) Maintain a clean, organized and Safe tool room environment and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• (5%) Other duties as assigned.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, see, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. This role operates large equipment while standing for approximately 8 hours, regularly twisting and bending in a repetitive motion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and heavier weights with proper equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job may risk exposure to heat and/or cold, loud noise levels, vibration, and moving mechanical parts.

WORK STATUS & LOCATION

This is a full-time position located in Pitt Meadows, BC.

RELOCATION

Relocation may be considered for this position.

PAY $35 - $50 / hour
