Job summary

The Theta TTS Inc. team in Barrie, Ontario, is seeking a skilled Tool & Die Maker to join our precision tooling cell. You will manufacture, test and repair dies, gauges, jigs, and fixtures used in high-volume production while reading drawings and CAD models to exact tolerances.

You will set up and operate tool room equipment, conduct dimensional inspections with micrometers and calipers, and collaborate with engineering, maintenance and production to meet tight timelines and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship or certification in tool and die making or equivalent.
  • Experience reading blueprints, CAD models and engineering specs.
  • Proficient with precision machining and high-volume tooling.
  • Knowledge of TS16949 or equivalent quality systems and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work safely, multi-task and collaborate with teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture, test, prove, maintain and repair precision tooling (dies, jigs, gauges).
  • Set up and operate tool room equipment to shape pieces to spec.
  • Read drawings, inspect parts with micrometers/calipers, document results.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues and support production to meet timelines.
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance and production teams on quality goals.

Role Description Requires high degree of specialized skill and knowledge of tool building practices, working with extreme accuracy, to very close tolerances, to manufacture, test, prove, maintain, improve, trouble shoot and repair precision tools including fine blanking, progressive and transfer dies, jigs, fixtures and gauges. Perform jobs from start to finish, with little or no supervision. Need to be adaptable, flexible, accountable and dependable with good attention to detail. Need to have a quality focus following company policies and procedures, maintaining safe work and 5S practices.Work closely with other personnel to support other departments to ensure company goals, time line requirements and customer needs are met.

  • Strong skills in tool and die making, including precision machining, grinding, fitting, and assembly for high-volume production tooling.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and engineering specifications.
  • Set up, operate and maintain tool room equipment to cut, turn, mill, drill, bore, grind or otherwise shape work pieces to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
  • Knowledge of dimensional inspection techniques, use of measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges), and root-cause analysis for tooling defects.
  • Understanding of automotive manufacturing processes, TS16949 or similar quality systems, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Completion of a recognized Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship or equivalent trade certification; related technical diploma is an asset.
  • Ability to work safely, manage multiple tasks, and collaborate effectively with engineering, maintenance, and production teams.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Barrie, ON, with flexibility for shift work or overtime as required by production demands.
