HUMAN RESOURCES BUSINESS PARTNER
The HRBP is a key partner to the business leaders within their client group, focused on developing leadership, driving engagement and retention, leading initiatives that lead to elevating employee experience, satisfaction and success, within a dynamic and engaged culture aligned with Syntax’s mission and strategic goals.
As a Human Resources Business Partner, you will report to the Director of People and Culture and serve as a member of Syntax’s People team. This is a strategic and hands-on role where you are the connection between the Centres of Excellence (COEs) and business lines to address talent management, talent development, employee engagement and retention, and HR compliance.
As an integral member of Syntax’s People team, you will lean into and support a culture defined by meaningful work, ample fun, deep employee engagement and strong, inclusive leadership to ensure Syntax will outperform peers as an employer of choice.
Key Accountabilities
The Human Resources Business Partner will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to the following:
- Partner with business unit leaders and the People team COEs to ensure continuous communication and connectivity between the People function and the business.
- Administer effective HR programs with a focus on talent management, talent development, employee engagement, labour relations, and HR compliance.
- Provide subject matter expertise across department and functional lines in HR related projects and programs.
Employee engagement & employee relations
- Demonstrate continuous knowledge in updated laws and regulations of HR programs and contribute to the design of procedures and forms for policy implementation.
- Manage Employee Engagement actions with their client groups.
- Serve as the employee point of contact for all HR support, information requests, and data updates.
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry of personnel changes into HR systems.
- Conduct exit interviews and communicate important exit information to employees in advance of their last day. Ensure final pay is prepared accurately and in accordance with regulations.
- Assist the Finance department with payroll and benefit-related events as required.
- Uphold the company’s core values and behaviors with the Code of Conduct.
- Manage claims (health and safety, short/long-term disability, etc.) with providers and government entities.
- Support regional recruiting activities, including immigration, interviewing, and onboarding, in partnership with the Global Talent Acquisition team.
- Provide solutions to complex employee issues.
- Investigate and resolve employee relations matters.
- Maintain all employee documentation respecting privacy laws.
- Guide client groups on DE&I programming to foster a diverse and inclusive culture at Syntax.
Coaching and development
- Partner with managers to coach them on employment legislations and facilitate training and leadership development.
- Coach leadership on performance gaps, providing guidance towards appropriate learning.
- Run Talent Mapping processes to identify High Potential employees for development.
- Identify at-risk talent and create retention plans with the Total Rewards and Talent Development COEs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Demonstrated strong HR expertise across multiple functions and experience supporting a technology workforce.
- Skilled in coaching and leadership development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Psychology, or related field; experience may substitute for a degree.
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience.
- Strong business acumen and HR analysis skills.
- Current knowledge of legal regulations and HR practices.
