Hatch is seeking a Thermofluids Modelling Student for January 2027 in Mississauga. You will support global projects within the Thermofluids Team of SE&P, applying CFD tools to solve fluid flow and heat transfer problems across metals, energy, and infrastructure sectors.

You will work both independently and with the team, developing new numerical tools, and communicating results through reports and presentations. The role emphasizes collaboration, safety, and practical problem solving.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil/Environmental Engineering.
  • Core courses in fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and numerical methods completed with high standing.
  • Proficiency with CFD software is desirable but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Use first principles-based approaches and state of the art numerical methods including CFD to solve thermofluids problems.
  • Work independently and in a team to solve engineering problems in different applications.

The Thermofluids Team of the Specialized Engineering and Products (SE&P) Group is seeking a Thermofluids Modelling Student starting January 2027. In this role you will support projects globally, based out of our Mississauga location.

As the successful candidate, you will:
  • Use first principles-based approaches, calculation tools, and state of the art numerical methods including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to solve fluid flow and heat transfer problems in metals, energy, and infrastructure industries.
  • Work both independently and in a team environment to solve a variety of thermofluids engineering problems in different industry applications.
  • Communicate thermofluids and CFD analysis results to other engineering teams and clients, including preparing technical reports and presentations.
  • Participate in thermofluids-related design decisions and guide the Hatch project team in the decision-making process.
  • Develop new (in-house) numerical tools and models.
You bring t the role:
  • Is currently in 3rd or 4th year, completing a degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil/Environmental Engineering where core courses of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and numerical methods have been completed with high standing.
  • Additional desirable courses include transport phenomena, finite-volume methods (CFD), combustion, multiphase flows, aerodynamics/hydrodynamics, compressible flows, thermodynamics.
  • Some proficiency and experience with commercial CFD software (Ansys Fluent, Siemens STAR-CCM+, or equivalent) is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
  • Some proficiency with commercial 1-D flow network software (Flownex, Arrow etc.) is also desirable.
  • Proficiency in scientific programming (MATLAB, C++, Fortran, Python, etc.) is desirable.
Competencies (knowledge, skill, attributes):
  • Strong understanding of transport phenomena fundamentals, particularly fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer.
  • Understanding of numerical methods such as finite-volume method, finite-difference method, etc.
  • Demonstrates strong desire and aptitude for numerical analysis work.
  • Exhibits critical thinking and ability to establish effective solutions for complex problems.
  • Enjoy taking on new challenges with a commitment to achieving engineering excellence.
  • Ability to learn quickly and comfortable with taking on multiple roles.
  • Resourceful – learns quickly, capable of devising ways and means to solve problems with limited information, dealing well and overcoming difficult or challenging situations.
  • Interest in multiple fields of practice (metallurgy, energy, infrastructure).

Compensation:

Range: $26.00 - $34.00

Your individual compensation within this range will depend on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications and location.
