Job summary

Alberta Health Services in Fairview, AB is seeking a part-time Recreation Therapy Assistant to join the Fairview Health Complex Type A. You will provide recreation services to residents (64-bed facility) under the supervision of the Recreation Therapist, collaborating with the Allied Health and Nursing teams to support evidence-based, client-centered rehabilitation.

The Recreation Therapy Assistant, supervised by the Recreation Therapist, provides services in close collaboration with the rest of the Allied Health and Nursing team. This position will assist with the promotion of a comprehensive service for clients developing and implementing evidence based, client-centered practice based on therapeutic recreation standards of practice. Description: As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Therapeutic Recreation Assistant or equivalent diploma/certification from a recognized post-secondary institution.

Valid BCLS-HCP certificate required.

Proven ability to accept verbal and written instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.

Physically capable of pushing wheelchairs for an extended period of time and performing client transfers.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preference will be given to candidates who are proficient in Connect Care.

Preference will be given to candidates who have knowledge of the facility and the residents.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferably minimum 1 year experience working in a Therapeutic Recreation position with seniors and/or individuals with challenges.
