Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking a Recreation Therapist II for the Northwest Health Centre in High Level. You will lead and deliver a creative program for long-term care residents, assess needs, supervise staff, and collaborate with families and the health team.

The role offers a recruitment incentive up to $60,000, relocation support, and a Northern Allowance with other travel benefits. Prior to start, eligibility for ATTRA and a valid Class 5 license are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies.
  • Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
  • Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.

We are seeking an exceptional Recreation Therapist to work at the Northwest Health Centre in High Level. The position involves assessment, program development, provision of patient care, supervision therapy assistants and volunteers, and participation in program evaluation. It will also include orientation of students to the service and participation in staff development. You will provide service to Ft. Vermillion residents as well. Relocation assistance may be available.

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident). You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a variety of disciplines, management and physicians. Proven ability to be resourceful, creative, adaptive and flexible. Valid Class 5 Driver's License. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current BCLS-HCP (CPR) certification.
