Job summary

Alberta Health Services in Slave Lake seeks a Recreation Therapy Aide for the Slave Lake Healthcare Centre. You will work with an interdisciplinary team to support rehabilitation services, promote healthy living, and assist with therapy protocols in a Type A LTC setting.

Under supervision, you will perform routine interventions, help with lifts and transfers, and assist with ADL/IADL activities, while contributing to a patient-centered care plan and documenting progress.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12.
• Minimum high school diploma; excellent communication and collaborative skills required; capable of performing physically demanding tasks.
• Health Care Aide certificate or equivalent preferred; related experience in recreation in a medical setting is an asset; Connect Care experience considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Order supplies, book clients, track attendances, and manage equipment inventory.
• Prepare and apply routine interventions under supervision; promote healthy living and client independence.
• Assist with client lifts/transfers, positioning, and ADL/IADL within the therapy program.
• Support setup/cleanup of the treatment area and collaborative care with the interdisciplinary team.

We are seeking an exceptional Recreation Therapy Aide to work at the Slave Lake Healthcare Centre. Just 2.5 hours north of Edmonton, Slave Lake is a vibrant lakeside community known for its long sandy beaches, clear blue water, and easy access to one of Alberta’s most impressive provincial parks. The Recreation Therapy Aide, supervised by the Recreation Therapist, provides services in close collaboration with the rest of the Allied Health and Nursing team. This position will assist with the promotion of a comprehensive service for clients developing and implementing evidence based, client-centered practice based on therapeutic recreation standards of practice.You’ll enjoy a competitive rate of pay and eligibility for the Northern Living Allowance. ALA currently has a Remote Retention Allowance to an annual maximum of $3,000. Relocation assistance may be available.

Description:

As a Therapy Aide, you will be working both independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team where you will contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services. Your role may include administrative duties such as ordering supplies, booking clients, tracking attendances, equipment inventory and preparing/cleaning the treatment area. Under the direction of a supervising recreation therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, audiologist, or speech language pathologist, you will prepare and/or apply routine interventions, promote patient (client, resident) healthy living, self-care independence and motivate clients to actively participate in assigned therapy protocols or programs. You may assist with client lifts and transfers, positioning, and basic activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) within the context of the therapy program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum high school diploma.Excellent communication skills and collaborative skills required.This position is anticipated to have high physical demands based on the client need. The successful candidate needs to be physically. capable of pushing wheelchairs for an extended period of time, loading clients onto the bus for outings, supporting the clients in a range of physical hygiene tasks and performing client transfers over the course of a full shift.

Preferred Qualifications:

Health Care Aide certificate or equivalent preferred.Related experience working with elderly or physically challenged individuals an asset.Previous experience working with Recreation in a medical setting will be considered an asset.Experience with Connect Care electronic charting is considered an asset.
