Job description

Your Opportunity:

The Therapy Assistant (TA) supports the Southern Alberta Seating Clinic (SASC) and will primarily work under the direction of the Occupational and Physiotherapist to support the assessment, trial and ordering of complex seating accessories and components for both manual and power wheelchairs. This position is based out of the Chinook Regional Hospital however SASC clients are seen across the southwest corner of Alberta therefore travel to rural communities is required. The successful candidate will build strong collaboration with clients, caregivers, vendors, manufacturers, funding agencies and other health care providers. It is expected you will possess very strong organizational skills as well as excellent verbal and written skills. It is also expected for the TA to be self-motivated and have the ability and willingness to pursue continued learning of evidence-based strategies to enable clients with complex seating needs/goals. This position will involve cross training with the seating technician to learn to build custom seating components for complex seating clients for both adult and children. As such, you must have basic knowledge of manual and power tools as well as sewing machines. Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
