Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Friday: approx. 2 x per month 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM & approx. 2 x per month 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Duration of Position:August 26, 2025 - June 26, 2026

Grasslands Public Schoolsis seeking dedicated and compassionate applicants, to fill 5 TherapyAssistantpositions. These positions will be a member of our multidisciplinary team of student services professionals, for the 2025/2026 School Year!

Therapy Assistant's will work closely with, and support, our Speech-Language Pathologist's and Occupational Therapist's, to implement individualized and targeted therapy plans for students. Working both independently and as a team, this position will work out of the Grasslands Learning Center, in Brooks, and will travel to school locations, throughout the division. The Therapy Assistant's role plays a critical part in supporting the student’s social, emotional, physical, and academic development in a safe and nurturing environment.

*Grasslands will reimburse qualifying mileage in accordance with Grasslands' travel reimbursement policy

Job Duties:

  • Support the speech-language pathologist (SLP) and occupational therapist (OT) in implementing therapy plans.
  • Collaboration with both SLP and OT to make multidisciplinary therapy plans (individualized or targeted).
  • Assist in preparing therapy materials, equipment, and workspaces.
  • Assist in therapeutic activities such as art therapy, music therapy, and physical activities designed to reduce stress and improve emotional wellbeing.
  • Monitor the student’s emotional state and intervene as necessary to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss strategies, progress, and any necessary adjustments to the program.
  • Work closely with the student's parents/guardians to ensure consistency between the home and off-site environments.
  • Collect data on student performance and progress during therapy sessions.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records as directed by the therapists, which will include, but is not limited to records of the student’s daily activities, progress, and any incidents.
  • Maintain confidentiality according to the SLP and OT professional colleges.
  • Follow ethical and professional guidelines when working with students.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers and staff regarding student needs and progress within professional boundaries.
  • Adhere to school policies, safety regulations, and confidentiality requirements
  • Travel to various schools within the district (in city of Brooks and rural communities)

Ideal candidates skills & abilities:

  • Able to take direction while also working with autonomy.
  • Physical capacity to assist with student mobility and positioning (lifting/ carrying/ pushing/pulling), sit on the floor and/or at small tables/chairs for long periods of time and frequently changing from sitting to standing.
  • Strong understanding of behavior management techniques and strategies for supporting children with complex health conditions.
  • Able to remain calm and composed in challenging situations and to deescalate as appropriate.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for the student.
  • Assist with dressing, toileting and feeding.
  • Experience with speech-language and/or occupational therapies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven Cultural, Diversity and Inclusion Competencies and able to apply these competencies to all aspects of the job.
  • Flexible and able to work independently, as a team and with community agencies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and able to prioritize multiple demands.
  • Respect and value all individuals with sensitivity to diversity.

  • Understanding of how this role impacts the community.
  • Able to quickly build trust,rapport and strong relationships with Grasslands students, employees, and our community.

Education and Certifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field.
  • Valid class 5 drivers licence and access to a vehicle for traveling between locations, as required.

(Grasslands will reimburse qualifying mileage in accordance with Grasslands' travel reimbursement policy)

The following is considered an asset but not a requirement:

  • Experience with speech-language and/or occupational therapies.
  • Experienced in working with diverse and multicultural populations.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with children with complex needs, including physical, behavioral, and emotional challenges.
  • Experience with speech-language and/or occupational therapies.
  • Previous experience in a therapeutic or educational setting is preferred.
  • Experienced in working with diverse and multicultural populations is considered.
