Job summary

Carewest in Calgary is seeking a Regular Part Time Recreation Therapy assistant to support residents with daily living activities and social programs. The role focuses on activities of daily living, crafts, social events, and group exercise under supervision.

Qualifications include Grade 12, CPR certification, and a PCA leisure activities certificate; hospital/continuing care experience is preferred and geriatric experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Graduation from Grade 12.
• Current and active Basic Life Support CPR is required.
• PCA, Certificate in leisure activities or equivalent.
• Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Related experience in a hospital or continuing care facility is preferred.
• Geriatric experience is an asset.
• Program specific training/experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Under close supervision, performs routine client care support activities to optimize residents' functional abilities.
• Assist with ADL, instruct craft classes, assist with social events, and lead group exercises and games.
• Follow care plans and policies and perform other related duties as required.

The Opportunity

Position Summary

Under close supervision, and in accordance with established policies, procedures and care plans, performs a variety of routine client care support activities to optimize the functional abilities of residents. Duties may include
assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADL), instructing craft classes, assisting with social events, group exercises and games. Responsible for other related duties as required.

Program Summary

Complex Care – for frail seniors who require the care of an interdisciplinary team to maintain and improve quality of life in safe, comfortable and supportive environments. Carewest offers a mix of secured and unsecured units.
