Job summary

TVCC in London, Ontario is currently recruiting a temporary, full-time Therapeutic Recreation Assistant for the Early Childhood, School Age and Adolescent Program (ECSAAP). The role runs through January 2028 and involves evening and weekend work with travel across Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford counties.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure.
• Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard certification preferred; must obtain Lifesaving for Lay Rescuers.
• Knowledge of child development and childhood disabilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication; organizational, interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft 365 and videoconferencing (Teams).
• Valid Ontario driver's licence and access to a vehicle.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

• Assist TRs with developing, planning, facilitating, documenting, and evaluating TR interventions.
• Provide individual and group TR interventions to meet client and program goals.
• Support family engagement programs at TVCC, community and virtual locations.
• Provide education and information at events for community partners.
• Engage with TRs for feedback and observations on interventions.
• Facilitate programs in the Adapted Fitness Centre, with volunteers and clients.
• Support orientation and supervision of volunteers and students.
• Encourage parents/caregivers to participate.
• Coach community providers on inclusive participation.

Job description

We are currently recruiting to fill a temporary, full-time (37.5 hours per week) Therapeutic Recreation Assistant position in the Early Childhood, School Age and Adolescent Program (ECSAAP). This position is expected to begin as soon as possible and end in January 2028.

The designated office for this position will be London. Travel and service delivery within Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford counties is required. Regular evening and occasional weekend work will be required.

Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Manager, Family and Community Services, the successful candidate will:
• Assist Recreation Therapists (TRs) with developing, planning, facilitating, documenting, and evaluating direct and indirect client related Therapeutic Recreation (TR) interventions
• Support and provide individual and group TR interventions to facilitate the achievement of targeted and generalized client and program goals
• Support and provide family engagement, education, and participation programs at TVCC, community, and virtual locations, including programs such as recreational swims, family events, information fairs and open houses
• Support and provide education and information at events for community members/partners
• Engage in ongoing consultation and collaboration with TRs regarding feedback and observations of interventions
• Under the direction of the TR, facilitate programming in the Adapted Fitness Centre (AFC), including supporting volunteers and clients to achieve goals
• Support orientation and supervision of volunteers and students
• Encourage and coach parents/caregivers regarding participation goals
• Coach community recreation providers in the implementation of inclusive participation

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure
• Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard certification preferred; must be able to get and maintain Lifesaving for Lay Rescuers certification at a minimum
• Knowledge of child development and childhood disabilities
• Communication (written and verbal); organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills
• Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office 365 and videoconferencing software (e.g. Teams)
• Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a vehicle required
• Current CPR and First Aid certification
• Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Salary Range: $28.92 - $31.26
