About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Manager and working under the direction of the recreation therapist and/or regulated health care professional, the Therapeutic Assistant (TA) is a member of the collaborative health care team, providing support to patients, families, and interprofessional team members through the incorporation of facilitation techniques and participation in leisure/recreation activities. The Therapeutic Assistant will work cooperatively and collaboratively with the interdisciplinary treatment team in carrying out the individual’s treatment program and communicating patient-specific information that will enhance the level of knowledge of the treatment team. Under the direction of the recreation therapist and appropriate, involved members of the health care team, TAs support the patient’s plan of care to maximize the patient’s successful engagement, modeled within a recreation therapy framework.

About You
  • Grade XII plus completion of year one from an accredited Therapeutic Recreation program which includes the Therapeutic Recreation Foundations Course
  • Current CPR certification is required
  • Current St. John Ambulance First Aid course preferred
  • Current certification in Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) is an asset
  • Behaviour Modification Skills
  • Leisure/Recreation related knowledge and skills to support patient care plans for transition
  • Understanding of multi-disciplinary treatment team approaches within acute care and along the continuum of care
  • Understanding of patient populations in acute care with cognitive and/or responsive behaviors
  • Ability to work in a high pace acute care environment
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours
  • Permanent Part-Time; 60 Hours Bi-weekly
Compensation and Benefits

$23.56 - $26.36 Hourly
