Job summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (Theatre Qualified) at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC, provides nursing care in the operating room as part of the surgical team. You will perform pre-, intra-, and post-operative activities, collaborate with RNs, and support booking, documentation, and patient care routines.

Qualifications

• Graduate from recognized Practical Nurse program with LPN competencies.
• One year recent experience as LPN in acute care (or equivalent).
• Current practicing registration with BCCNM and Basic Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document patient care pre-, intra-, and post-operative.
• Perform scrub duties and circulating duties in OR, in collaboration with peri-operative team.
• Assist RN coordinating care in the operating room as requested.
• Alert RN to problems or changes in patient status in OR.
• Document observations and treatment in patient records during all peri-operative periods.
• Attend staff meetings and quality improvement rounds for information and feedback.
• Assist with orientation of new staff and demonstrations of procedures.
• Attend education sessions and workshops to facilitate knowledge and technology changes.
• Perform related clerical duties and maintain standardized records.
