Job summary

Atlantic Packaging is hiring a Testing Lab Technician in Brampton. You will prepare and test corrugated board, handling tests from basis weight to Cobbs and Mullen, and coordinating with Quality Control.

Reporting to the Structural Design Manager, you will support pre‑shipment tests and data logs. The role requires 1–2 years lab/quality control experience, a college diploma or degree in a related field, and familiarity with TAPPI/ASTM/ISO testing; MS Office skills are essential.

Qualifications

• College diploma or university degree in laboratory science, packaging technology, or materials science preferred.
• 1–2 years hands-on lab or quality control experience in pulp, paper, or corrugated packaging is desirable.
• Familiarity with TAPPI/ASTM/ISO testing procedures for paper and corrugated materials.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook/Excel/Word/PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Understand and implement company quality systems and policies.
• Perform routine and specialized lab tests including basis weight, ECT, caliper, BCT, Mullen, Cobb.
• Prepare, test, and report test results to Quality Control personnel.
• Escalate non-conformances and maintain weekly productivity logs.
• Support safety programs and participate in product knowledge seminars.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Testing Lab Technician for our Brampton location. Reporting to the Structural Design Manager, this position is responsible for preparing and testing corrugated board. Tests performed in the lab include; basis weight, edge crush (ECT), caliper, pin adhesion (PAT), flat crush (FCT), box compression (BCT), mullen (burst) and cobb. Pre – shipment tests include; drop, vibration and incline.

What you'll do

• Understandand implement companyquality systems and policies
• Attend QWG and Safety meetingsasrequired
• Daily Testing:Perform routine testing on random samples from plant corrugators (pre-converted sheets) and converting lines (post-converted samples).
• Mill Lab Testing:Execute specialized tests including S.T.F.I., slip angle, and Mullen inside the mill lab environment
• Technical Test Battery:Prepare, test, and report on basis weight, edge crush (ECT), caliper, pin adhesion, flat crush, box compression (BCT), Mullen burst, and Cobb tests.
• Forwardall random testing resultsand reportsto the applicable Quality Control personnel
• Non-Conformance Escalation:Advisethe Structural Design Managerofproduct non-conformances, workflow volume issues, or stock depletion
• Data Log Reporting:Manage weekly productivity log reporting and distribute random testing results to applicable Quality Control personnel
• Customer-Requested Testing:Run tailored tests requested by clients and forward dataand recommendationsdirectly to the handling sales representative
• Competitor Benchmarking:Analyze and test competitor board samples for comparison purposes as requested by the sales team
• Calibrate rulers, caliper gauges, and THDX recorder asrequired
• Participating in Product Knowledge Seminars and tours
• Perform other duties asrequired
• Work safely, reporting hazards and unsafe conditions, and taking all reasonable measures to protect themselves and their co-workers
• Use and wear personal protective equipmentasrequired
• Work in compliance with the responsibilities as outlined in the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Industrial Regulations and with the Company’s safe practices and procedures

What you'll bring

• College diploma or university degree in laboratory science, packaging technology, or materials scienceis preferred
• 1 to 2 years of hands-on laboratory or quality control experience, ideally within the pulp, paper, or corrugated packaging industry.
• Familiarity with TAPPI, ASTM, or ISO testing procedures for paper and corrugated materials.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products; Outlook, Excel, Word and Power point
• Strong,effective communication skillsfor teamwork and independent work
• Detail oriented and professional demeanor
