Qualifications

  • 5+ years of maintenance experience in a relevant industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supervising people to maximize productivity with available resources.
  • Health and safety experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of marine structures and related repair trades.
  • Understanding of applicable legislations and regulations for marine operations.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with diverse audiences, both oral and written.

  • Coordinate marine structure inspections with staff and contractors; track nonconformities.
  • Investigate equipment failures; determine root causes and preventive actions.
  • Supervise unionized Sliptenders; manage daily duties and scheduling.
  • Lead or assist terminal projects (paving, lighting, electrical upgrades, dredging).
  • Contribute to planned maintenance system for terminal equipment.
  • Oversee terminal inventory management and budget preparation.

Job Description

The Terminal Maintenance Supervisor plans and executes repair and maintenance work in the terminal in a cost-efficient manner with minimal disruption to normal operations. This includes coordination and supervision of all maintenance activities carried out by contractors and on-board Engineers ensuring full compliance with standards of regulatory agencies.

Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 7700 Hopcott Road, Delta.

What You'll Do
  • Responsible for safe and efficient operation of terminal ramps, land based structures and marine and floating structures.
  • Coordinates marine structure inspections daily, monthly, and annually with maintenance staff and contractors, and follows up on nonconformities.
  • Initiates the investigation of equipment failures, ensures the cause of failure is determined and makes recommendations to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
  • Supervises unionized Sliptenders including daily duties, staff scheduling, succession planning, and personnel issues.
  • Leads or assists in project work at terminals such as paving, lighting, electrical upgrades, marine structure improvements, and dredging.
  • Planned maintenance system inclusion for terminal related equipment.
  • Supervises terminal inventory management.
  • Contributes to preparation of annual budget for terminal maintenance and repair.
  • Manages terminal fire protection and environmental readiness.
  • Prioritizes landscaping, mobile equipment maintenance, housekeeping and general maintenance at each terminal.
  • On call for all terminal related emergencies.
  • Keeps up to date with trends and development in marine construction and related regulations.
  • Performs additional duties as required.
What You'll Bring
  • Diploma in Engineering or completion of an apprenticeship program in Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance field in relevant industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with supervising people to achieve maximum productivity with available resources.
  • Health and safety experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of marine structures and applicable repair and maintenance trades.
  • Understanding of applicable Legislations, Acts and Regulations for marine operations.
  • Planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make decisions independently under time pressure.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with diverse audience, both verbal and written (including technical writing).
  • Understanding statutory safety laws while maintaining efficient operations.
  • Negotiating skills to achieve cost and service efficiency from vendors and contractors.
  • Ability to lead and empower to gain respect and trust.
  • Ability to develop people through work.

The estimated salary for this position is $109,800 - $134,200. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
