JOB SUMMARY
Emergency Program Coordinator is required to assist with developing and implementing emergency services, provide Policy Support, lead staff and Member Engagement as well as work with external agencies to develop partnerships and best practices for the OKIB team. The work of this role directly impacts on the long-term planning, health, and development of the community as a whole and has an important impact on effective community development services and initiatives.

This position would be responsible for coordination of safe and effective Emergency Management support, and for the review, maintenance, and implementation of the OKIB Emergency Response and Community Preparedness. In addition, to focusing on coordination of critical community and staff training and educational awareness. This position will assist with liaising with external Emergency Management Government and non-Government organizations and Stakeholders.

SUPPORTS NEEDED

  • Implement annual seasonal training for the community and staff
  • Coordinate Community Awareness Events, Preparedness Week, Shakeout
  • Plan for training in community for staff and community members personal preparedness
  • Prepare grab and go bags and educate and support Elders on evacuation procedures and Emergency Support Services
  • Attend collaborative meetings with partners, Emergency Planning Secretariat, North Okanagan, Central Okanagan and Columbia Shuswap Regional Districts, Neighboring municipalities, Emergency Management Climate Readiness, First Nation Health Authority, First Nations Emergency Services Society and other Syilx Communities
  • Assist with proposal development for Emergency Response Equipment (Emergency Operations Center, Signs, Training Materials, Emergency Support Services supplies)
  • Track and maintain Community and Staff Emergency Management training logs
  • Track and maintain Emergency equipment and supplies
  • Assist and support the development, delivery and maintenance of preparedness, prevention and community education sessions, workshops, and materials
  • Set up the required organizational structure to ensure the Emergency Operations Center is staffed, organized, and established for effective teamwork during an emergency event
  • Community after-hours Emergency contact
  • Coordinate Emergency Program Committee
  • All persons employed by the Okanagan Indian Band may be required to assist the Band in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties
  • Participate in community events as requested
  • Attends meetings when required
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the OKIB policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as required


WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
You have education, experience, or carry a willingness to learn. You are community-minded, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator.

Education

  • High School Diploma and/or related post-secondary education
  • Class 5 License (unrestricted is preferred)
  • Emergency First Aid Community Care Certificate
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C Certificate is an asset
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training


Experience

  • Experience in working with First Nations communities and/or organizations
  • 3-5 years of experience of Emergency Support Service components and procedures, preferable in First Nation environment
  • Volunteer experience working in an emergency management role
  • Working knowledge of office procedures, records management, and document processing

CLASSIFICATION/PAY SCALE
$27.00 - $33.00 per hour dependant on education and experience
