Job description

THE JOB

You will lead the administration of forest tenures and assist in planning and implementing related forestry activities. Working with our team of forest professionals, you will provide leadership and mentorship to help develop team members. Opportunities for career growth and diversification into other fields of natural resource management will also be available.

This position is based in beautiful Terrace, BC, a family-oriented community with many amenities and access to arts, culture, and outdoor activities such as fishing, skiing, mountain biking, and hiking. Most work is local, making it ideal for those who prefer to be home every night.

ABOUT WESTLAND RESOURCES LIMITED

Westland Resources provides natural resource management services to clients throughout Northwest BC. We manage four forest licences, two forestry licences to cut, two woodlots, a tree farm licence, and future Treaty lands. With over 20 years of experience, we offer strategic, tactical, and operational advice, research, assessments, development, permitting, operational implementation, monitoring, supervision, economic and community development, and problem-solving services.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Deliver strategic, tactical, and operational forest planning and development.
  • Mentor staff in activities such as: permit and plan preparation, prescriptions (pre- and post-harvest), wildfire, and silviculture.
  • Provide Team Support across forest management and other natural resource sectors, including energy, environmental, wildfire, and First Nation projects.
  • Maintain openness and positivity with clients and government agencies.
QUALIFICATIONS

Ideally, you have 10+ years of experience including:

  • Managing forest tenures, developing strategic initiatives, conducting operational reviews, negotiations, budget and plan preparation, and engaging licensees.
  • Coordinating or leading permit and plan preparation and technical writing in forestry.
  • Experience with BC’s natural resource legislation.
  • Proficiency with GPS technology and applications such as RoadEng, ArcMap, and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of block and road development, cruising, appraisals, surveys, silviculture, and wildfire.
  • Registration with BC Forest Professionals.
  • Teamwork, self-motivation, and a proactive approach to system improvements, efficiencies, and problem-solving.
  • Engagement with clients, agencies, and First Nations to meet needs and obligations.

Westland offers a competitive salary ($83,000 - $109,000/year), comprehensive benefits, profit sharing, pension allowance, coverage of professional dues, allowances for personal equipment and moving, flexible work schedules, professional development opportunities, and a minimum signing bonus of $1500 after a 90-day probation.
