Job summary

Arcola School in Arcola, SK is hiring a part-time education assistant to support students with diverse and behavioral needs. The role requires assisting with life skills and academic planning under a teacher’s direction.

The successful candidate will need a Grade 12 diploma, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work collaboratively in a school setting. Training in first aid or ASD supports is an asset.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support students with diverse needs and behavioral needs.

• Assist in transitioning students to work with peers and adults.
• Contribute to safety plans for students and supervise groups.

Equivalent to 3 hours per day student days

Duties

In addition to those duties outlined in the job description, duties include supporting students with diverse needs and/or high behavioral needs. The successful applicant may be required to perform the following:

• Ability to lift up to 60 pounds without a lift and up to 120 pounds with 2 man lift or mechanical lift
• Transport students (personal vehicle may be required to transport)
• Attend to personal hygiene and medical needs as required
• Prepare and plan student-based life skills and academic programming under direction of teacher
• Focus on successfully transitioning the student to be able to work with other students and adults
• Focus on behaviour and safety plan created specifically for students as required
• Supervision of intensive needs student(s) as well as small groups of students as required

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 diploma from an institution recognized by the Board of Education
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and be flexible
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as an effective team member
• Valid driver's license
• Demonstrated knowledge of school computer software such as word processing and computer assisted learning software
• An educational assistant or equivalent diploma, NVCI, First Aid, Autism and Behavioral educational background will be considered assets
• Commitment to the ideals of public education as well as the mission, vision and guiding principles of the South East Cornerstone Public School Division

Salary & Benefits

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the currently negotiated CUPE Collective Agreement as listed on our website www.secpsd.ca. The starting wage for this position is currently $20.12/hour along with a full benefit package and an employer defined pension plan.
