Job summary

Midale Central School in Saskatchewan is seeking an Educational Assistant for a temporary role. You will support student programming under teacher direction, assist with life skills and academics, and help students transition to work with peers and staff.

The position requires a Grade 12 diploma and an Educational Assistant or equivalent credential; assets include NVCI, First Aid, autism/behavioral education background, and a valid drivers license.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lift up to 60 pounds without assistance and up to 120 pounds with two-person or mechanical lift.
• Transport students as needed using a personal vehicle if required.
• Attend to students personal hygiene and medical needs as required.
• Prepare and plan student-based life skills and academic programming under teacher direction.
• Support successful transition of students to work with others.
• Contribute to behaviour and safety plans created for students as required.
• Supervise intensive need students and small groups as required.

Equivalent to 3 hours per day student days

Duties

• Lifting - Ability to lift up to 60 pounds without a lift and up to 120 pounds with a 2 man lift or mechanical lift
• Transport students (personal vehicle may be required to transport)
• Attend to personal hygiene and medical needs as required
• Prepare and plan student-based life skills and academic programming under direction of teacher
• Focus on successfully transitioning the student to be able to work with other students and adults
• Focus on behaviour and safety plan created specifically for students as required
• Supervision of intensive need student(s) as well as small groups of students as required

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 diploma from an institution recognized by the Board of Education
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and be flexible
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as an effective team member
• Valid driver's license
• Demonstrated knowledge of school computer software such as word processing and computer assisted learning software
• An educational assistant or equivalent diploma, NVCI, First Aid, Autism and Behavioral educational background will be considered assets
• Commitment to the ideals of public education as well as the mission, vision and guiding principles of the South East Cornerstone Public School Division

Salary & Benefits

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the currently negotiated SEIU-West Collective Agreement as listed on our website . The starting wage for this position is currently $22.53/hour along with a full benefit package and an employer defined pension plan.
