Parallel 49 Brewing Company, a craft brewery based in East Vancouver, seeks a Laboratory Assistant to support QA testing of beers and RTDs, conduct physicochemical analyses, and assist with microbiological work. You will prepare samples, perform tests, and help maintain lab safety and operations.

The role supports the QA Technician and QA Manager, with duties including aseptic sampling, plate pouring, and reporting quality issues.

Formación

• Previous experience in the food or beverage industry is an asset.

Responsabilidades

• Quality control of Beer and RTDs.
• Quality control sampling and measurement (density, pH, plato).
• Alcohol content sampling and measurement.
• Measurement of TPO.
• Assist with microbiological analysis of beer and RTDs.
• Pouring agar plates and making incubation broth.
• Aseptic sampling and cell counting.
• Assist with lab operations and collecting samples as requested.
• Maintain a clean and tidy lab and open communication with QA Manager.

We are Parallel 49 Brewing Company, a craft brewery based in the heart of East Vancouver. We were founded in 2012 by passionate craft beer enthusiasts and have quickly become a staple in the Canadian craft beer scene. As part of the Quality Assurance (QA) department, the laboratory assistant’s primary responsibility is to support the QA Technician and QA Manager in ensuring that all products conform to the highest quality and consistency standards. The quality assurance department conducts chemical and biological tests including, but not limited to: pH and Plato monitoring, alcohol measurement, total acidity, color, bitterness, dissolved oxygen, cell counting, microbiological identification, aseptic isolation of bacteria and yeast, yeast propagation, and PCR for spoilage organisms. The laboratory assistant will support the department by obtaining and preparing samples, and performing various quality testing methods on beers and RTDs.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Quality control of Beer and RTDs
• Quality control sampling and measurement (measurement of plato, density, and pH)
• Alcohol content sampling and measurement
• Measurement of TPO
• Assist with the microbiological analysis of beer and RTDs
• Pouring agar plates
• Making incubation broth
• Aseptic sampling
• Cell counting
• Assist with lab operations
• Collecting samples as requested
• Maintaining a clean and tidy lab
• Scanning and printing
• Communication
• Maintaining open & positive relationships with all departments
• Open communication with the Quality Assurance Manager and all departments
• Report all quality issues or deficiencies to the QA Manager
• Perform all other duties as required or assigned

Qualifications

• Previous experience in the food or beverage industry is considered an asset
• Previous laboratory experience is considered an asset
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines

Education Requirements

• A secondary School Diploma or equivalent required
• College or University level biology and chemistry science courses are considered an asset
