Job summary

Bluewater District School Board is seeking applicants for a Temporary Custodian position (13 hours per week) with an afternoon shift starting at 3:30 p.m., reporting to Head Custodian and school principal. Assignment may end earlier if incumbent returns.

As part of CUPE Local #1176, you will perform custodial duties, maintain facilities, and support events in our schools across Bruce and Grey Counties. The Board emphasizes equity, accommodations, and wellness.

Qualifications

• Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
• Access to technology and the Internet.
• Must be capable of performing a variety of repetitive, physical work (lifting, bending, pushing, pulling).

Responsibilities

• To abide by all Custodial related Plant practices and procedures, as well as follow all Board policies and procedures for Board Employees.
• To complete all assigned tasks.
• To be responsible for notifying the Head Custodian and/or Assistant Head Custodian of repairs required beyond qualifications.
• To be responsible for equipment checks, minor maintenance and repairs.
• To be responsible for notifying the AHC/HC of security breaches, mechanical or electrical failure or unusual circumstances.
• To draw from stock materials needed in meeting duties.
• To receive delivery of supplies and equipment.
• To work closely with community education partners to help ensure smooth operation of their events.
• To perform any other custodial duties as may be assigned.

Position:

Temporary Custodian (13 hours per week)

Schedule:

Afternoon Shift (3:30 p.m. start)

Assignment may end earlier than anticipated if incumbent returns earlier than expected.

Head Custodian/Assistant HeadCustodian/School Principal/Supervisor, Plant Operations

Note:

CUPE members must abide by all articles in the CUPE Local 1176 Collective Agreement.

• To be responsible for notifying the AHC, and/or HC of security breaches, mechanical or electrical failure or any other unusual circumstances.
• To draw from stock materials needed in meeting duties.
• To receive delivery of supplies and equipment.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Secondary schooldiplomaorequivalent
• Access to technology and the Internet
• Must becapableofperforming a variety of repetitive,physicalwork(i.e., lifting, bending, pushing, pulling etc.)

Assets:

• Previousexperience incommercial/industrial cleaning
• Comfort with basic facility/grounds maintenance
• Ability to work well as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision
• Basic computer skills (i.e., communicating via e-mail, accessing information and training)
• Effective communication skills
• Reliable transportation to and from worksites
