Job description

Position Description

A temporary full-time Speech Language Pathologist is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. The assignment will be at Learning Services.

We are dedicated to providing services that assist students in developing the attitudes, skills, and knowledge required to successfully participate in educational experiences. We provide indirect and direct services to the student and/or the school community. Our collective knowledge, skills, energy, creativity, and empathy support and nurture this process.

Duties

  1. Providing SLP services to students from K-12, with a focus on early years (K-3).
  2. Collaborating with other professionals including school-based teams and Learning Services staff.
  3. Using formal and informal measures to evaluate students’ speech, language, and communication development.
  4. Communicating assessment results to parents/guardians and educators, involving them in decision-making around supports.
  5. Providing support within the RTI tiered model, including classroom education, focused group intervention, and individual therapies.
  6. Creating goals for students and overseeing the implementation of interventions via Speech-Language Assistants and Educational Assistants.
  7. Assisting in the creation and monitoring of IEP goals.
  8. Recommending and assisting in the setup and implementation of AAC systems.
  9. Maintaining appropriate documentation and reporting for student files.
  10. Initiating referrals to other district staff, agencies, and community professionals in collaboration with school teams.
  11. Performing other related tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Masters Degree in Speech/Language Pathology.
  • Eligibility for Speech-Language and Audiology Canada certification or equivalent.
  • Membership with the College of Health & Care Professionals of BC.
  • This position is eligible for the BC Student Loan Forgiveness Program. More information is available online.
  • Successful experience working with school-age children, including children with Autism and developmental delays.
  • Ability to work effectively with school teams to provide interventions at Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 levels.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively to design interventions for speech and language development.
  • Experience with alternative and augmentative communication systems such as TouchChat, Proloquo2Go, etc.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Valid BC driver’s license and use of personal vehicle.
  • Availability to participate in meetings beyond regular school hours to support learning.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate in-services or collaboration sessions with educators and Educational Assistants.

  • Three references.
  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate).

Compensation

  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB, and Yukon; up to $4000 for teachers from other areas.
  • $3,035 recruitment allowance paid over 10 months, based on FTE.
  • Salary as per collective agreement, current grid $65,397 - $111,952.
  • Benefits as per collective agreement, including options for medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance, employer-paid based on FTE.
