Job description

A temporary full-time Speech Language Pathologist is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North), effective September 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. The assignment will be at Learning Services.

Duties
  1. Providing Speech-Language Pathologist services to students from K-12, with a focus on early years (K-3).
  2. Collaborating with other professionals, including school-based teams and Learning Services staff.
  3. Using formal and informal measures to evaluate students' speech, language, and communication development.
  4. Communicating assessment results to parents/guardians and educators, involving them in decision-making regarding supports.
  5. Providing support within the RTI tiered model, including classroom education, focused group interventions, and individual therapies.
  6. Creating goals for students and overseeing their implementation via Speech-Language Assistants and Educational Assistants.
  7. Assisting in the creation and monitoring of IEP goals.
  8. Recommending and assisting with the setup and implementation of AAC systems.
  9. Maintaining appropriate documentation and reporting for student files.
  10. Initiating referrals to other district staff, agencies, and community professionals in collaboration with school teams.
  11. Performing other related tasks as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology and current certification with Speech-Language and Audiology Canada or equivalent.
  • Membership with the College of Health & Care Professionals of BC.
  • Successful experience working with school-age children, including those with Autism and developmental delays.
  • Ability to work effectively with school teams to provide interventions at Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 levels of support.
  • Willingness to collaborate on designing interventions for speech and language development.
  • Experience with augmentative and alternative communication systems such as TouchChat, Proloquo2Go, etc.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Valid BC driver’s license and access to personal transportation.
  • Availability to participate in meetings outside regular school hours to support learning.
  • Ability to plan and facilitate in-services or collaboration sessions with educators and Educational Assistants.

Interested applicants must provide three references and verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate).

Compensation

Includes a $2,000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, Alberta, and Yukon, and up to $4,000 for teachers from other areas. A recruitment allowance of $3,035 is paid over 10 months, based on FTE. Salary ranges from $65,397 to $111,952 as per the collective agreement. Benefits include options for medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance, employer-paid based on FTE.
