Job summary

Flynn Group of Companies in Halifax, Nova Scotia is seeking a Health and Safety Specialist to uphold and advance our safety program. This permanent role reports to the Regional Health & Safety Manager for Eastern Canada and supports projects across HRM, Cape Breton and surrounding areas.

You will coach employees, perform site inspections, manage injury processes, lead COR audits and contribute to the safety culture at Flynn’s Halifax branch. A strong baseline in OH&S and leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a safety role within construction.
• Formal OH&S education or training; NCSO or equivalent.
• Experience with WCB and Return-to-Work programs.
• Knowledge of fall protection systems and legislation.
• Experience with incident investigations.
• ICI construction experience; building envelope knowledge a plus.
• Bilingualism is an asset.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills.
• Valid driver’s license.

Job Summary:

Health and Safety Specialists are responsible for the instruction, implementation, enforcement and management of the Health and Safety policies of the company through advising, coaching and educating all Flynn employees. This position will be based out of our Halifax branch, reporting to the Regional Health & Safety Manager for Eastern Canada. The chosen candidate will be responsible for supporting the province of Nova Scotia, which includes job sites in the HRM and surrounding areas, as well as Cape Breton.

A Day in the Life:

• Uphold and coach employees on Flynn's health and safety policies/procedures
• Perform site inspections

• Complete internal and external COR audits
• Attend pre-starts, hand-offs and other safety-related meetings
• Assist with the completion of site safety documents

What We Are Seeking:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a safety role within a construction environment
• Formal education and/or training in Environmental/Occupational Health and Safety, NCSO or equivalent experience
• Experience with WCB, Return to Work programs and injury management
• Good knowledge of Fall Protection systems and legislation
• Knowledge and practical experience in incident investigation
• Experience working in the ICI construction industry, specifically dealing with Building envelope is considered an asset
• Knowledge of the COR process is considered an asset
• Bilingualism is considered an asset
• Strong administrative and organizational skills
• Computer literate in Windows applications; Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Team attitude with a willingness to learn
• Valid driver’s license required
