Kent is looking for a Telecom Technician
To be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of telecommunication systems, including voice, data, wireless, radio, and fiber optic communication networks. To ensure that critical communication systems are operational and reliable, supporting continuous operations in oil and gas production, refining, and processing facilities.

- Install and configure telecommunication systems such as VoIP (Voice over IP) networks, radio communication systems, satellite communication, fibre optics, and data networks
- Set up and maintain hardware such as routers, switches, antennas, cables, and telecom equipment following engineering plans and industry standards
- Support the integration of new communication systems into existing networks
- Perform routine maintenance on telecom systems to ensure optimal functionality and minimise downtime
- Troubleshoot and repair communication equipment, including diagnosing network connectivity issues, signal interference, or hardware malfunctions
- Ensure that all telecom equipment is functioning properly, conducting regular checks to prevent failures
- Conduct system tests to verify the performance and reliability of telecom systems, including testing signal strength, data transmission rates, and communication clarity
- Assist in the commissioning of new telecom installations by ensuring systems meet technical specifications and quality standards
- Collaborate with engineers and field teams to implement system testing procedures and ensure all communications systems are fully operational
- Provide technical support to resolve complex communication issues, including network outages, equipment failures, and connectivity problems
- Use diagnostic tools and test equipment, such as spectrum analysers, signal strength meters, and network testers, to troubleshoot and repair telecom systems
- Coordinate with other departments (IT, electrical, etc.) to resolve multi-system issues affecting communication networks
- Maintain detailed records of system configurations, installations, repairs, and maintenance activities
- Prepare reports on system performance, troubleshooting activities, and completed repairs, providing updates to supervisors and engineers
- Ensure that all technical documentation, including schematics and network diagrams, is up to date and available for future reference
- Ensure all telecom installation and maintenance activities comply with industry safety standards, company policies, and relevant regulations, especially in hazardous oil and gas environments
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments to promote a safe working environment
- Follow proper procedures when working with high-voltage telecom equipment or in confined spaces, ensuring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Assist with the upgrading of telecom systems, including replacing outdated equipment, improving network capacity, and implementing new technologies
- Stay up-to-date on the latest telecommunication technologies and industry best practices to assist with system improvements and recommendations
- Collaborate with engineers to implement upgrades and ensure seamless transitions to new communication platforms
- Work closely with other technicians, engineers, and contractors to ensure the efficient execution of telecom-related projects and maintenance tasks
- Coordinate with field teams to provide technical support during system installations, troubleshooting, and repairs
- Collaborate with IT, mechanical, and electrical departments to ensure integrated systems function correctly
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Yourknowledge/skills,education,andexperience:
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
- Technical diploma or certificate in Telecommunications, Information Technology, or a related field is required
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or similar) are a plus
- 2-5 years of experience in telecom or IT-related fields, preferably in the oil and gas or industrial sector
Communication:
- Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.
Behavior/ Core Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of telecommunications systems, including VoIP, radio communication, satellite systems, data networks, and fiber optics
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing telecom hardware and network systems using diagnostic tools and test equipment
- Familiarity with network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and wireless communication systems
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Ability to convey technical information clearly to team members and management
- Commitment to accuracy in documentation and system configurations
